Beautiful essay. I particularly love this: " ... a meditative state where the mind forgets to worry about the body and begins to run out on its own." Is that state only available to the young? I remember it and would love to find it again, but my aging mind drifts always back to the aging body.

Good question and me too. My aging body seems to get louder every year, knees and back cracking, little noises when I get up, little but insistent pains here and there that seem like my body tapping my mind on its shoulder. I'd like to think we can still find ways to let our minds off the body's leash; I'm still looking for them, in any event.
